Demographic differences in health promoting lifestyle of adult jordanians

Background and Aims: There is a well-documented relationship between health promotion and good health, prevention of disease and improved self-management of disease for Adults. The demand for information to explain factors that motivate people to seek their health potential has risen. The purpose of this study was to examine health-promoting behaviors and its association with sociodemograhic factors of Jordanian Adults. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using convienience sample (n = 349) of Jordanian adults. Arabic version of Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile (HPLP-II) was used as a questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis was performed to assess the association between demographic factors and health-promoting behaviors. Findings: Jordanian adult men reported more participation in physical activities than adult women (5=. 135, p <. 01). Older Jordanian adults also reported less participation in physical activity (B = -.150, p <. 01), less stress-managing behaviors (B = -.220, p <. 001), and less total health-promoting behaviors (B= -.126, p <. 05). Meanwhile, Jordanian adults with an income level between 300-499JD reported participating in total health-promoting behaviors (B =. 139, p <. 05) and engaging in "interpersonal relations" (B =. 198 p <. 001) more than adults who reported an income level of 100JD or less. Conclusion:These information can help health professionals design guidlines for structuring health education programs that place more attention onto demographics variations among adult Jordanians.
