Abstract

New records of four fish species from the coast of Sea of Oman are reported: Symphysanodon andersoni (4 specimens, 254–564 mm SL), Epinephelus fasciatus (3 specimens, 147–389 mm SL), Atrobucca nibe (3 specimens, 149–422 mm SL) and Minous usachevi (5 specimens, 87–164 mm SL). All specimens were obtained through surveys by a trawler operating in the area during the period November 2010 – May 2011. The present study is important in that it records for the first time the presence of a species of S. andersoni, E. fasciatus, and M. usachevi and add a new location for the species A. nibe. It also important as it reports on the presence of established populations of the four species examined based on the catch of young individuals.
