Abstract

The performance analysis of a medium voltage series connected 12-pulse current source controlled rectifier by using static VAR compensator is presented. A new p-q locus is used where the maximum reactive power absorbed by the converter is halved and provides minimum input current total harmonic distortion (THD). Simulation and discussion are introduced when two Static VAR Compensators (SVC's) are connected to the secondary side of the front end phase shifting transformer. The results are compared with no compensation added to the system.
