Effect of ionising radiation on blood fibrinolytic activity in malignant diseases

Abstract

Effect of irradiation on blood fibrinolytic activity was observed in 30 patients with various malignant diseases. All the patients were given radiotherapy by Co60 and fibrinolytic activity was determined by euglobulin lysis time. Control study was conducted on 20 healthy individuals. Doses of irradiation ranged from 3000 rads to 6000 rads. Overall results showed increase in fibrinolytic activity in malignant diseases and decline in fibrinolytic activity after radiotherapy.
