N2 - Govindaraju and Koelliker (1994) as well as Hogarth et al. (1997) solved the Boussinesq equation using the linearization technique and numerical modeling. Significant results have been obtained by considering flow from a stream into an adjacent aquifer with zero water level at t > 0. However in both papers, the authors failed to include references from the Russian literature on this subject. A close look at both papers show that some of the solutions obtained are contained in the works of Barenblatt (1990), Polubarinova-Kochina (1969, 1977), and Samaraskii et al. (1987).
