Project Details

Description

In the last two decades, many researchers have investigated the use of FRP as reinforcement in concrete structures. It is now widely used as external reinforcement in structural rehabilitation and strengthening of reinforced concrete slabs, beams, and columns to enhance their capacities. It has also been used as internal reinforcement in structural members subjected to flexural and shear stresses. However, using FRP as internal reinforcement in compression members such as columns is still not fully explored by researchers. Extensive studies on FRP performance as internal reinforcement in concrete columns need to be performed in order to create design guidelines to be used in industry. The aim of this study is to investigate the behavior of concrete column reinforced with FRP longitudinal bars and spiral stirrups under axial and eccentric loading. Additionally, it aims to explore the effect of reinforcement ratio and stirrups spacing on the ultimate capacity of concrete column reinforced with FRPs.
