ملخص
The Sea of Oman is the semi enclosed basin that is separated from the Arabian Gulf by 56 km wide Strait of Hormuz in North and is connected to Arabian and Indian Sea in South. The Sea of Oman and the Arabian Gulf is situated in subtropical zone with arid climate. Both are exposed to north-westerly winds, seasonal variations over the Sea of Oman, high pressures in winter (1015 hPa) with relative low in summer (995 hPa) and air temperatures varying between 32–34 oC in summer and 18–20 oC in winter . The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important and busiest gateways for transporting more than half of world’s crude oil from the Arabian Gulf passing through Sea of Oman. Apart from the oil and gas sanctuaries, the marine environment and coastal ecosystem plays an important role in fulfilling social, economic and strategic development of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries including Oman.
