Abstract

The energy method of Frieman and Rotenberg was applied to investigate the linear stability of steady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows of an incompressible fluid with current-vortex sheets. Non-negative definiteness of the energy was presented as necessary and sufficient condition for the stability for general magnetostatic equilibrium with a current sheet. The article also discussed about the steady MHD flows with surfaces of tangential discontinuities.
