Abstract

As outlined in Chapter 1, pathogenesis-related proteins (PR proteins) were initially identified in tobacco plants reacting hypersensitively to tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) infection. The PR-5 protein(s) was detected as the slowest moving band among several low-molecular-weight proteins resolved by polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic analyses of acidic extracts of tobacco leaves (Samsun NN or Xanthi-nc) infected with TMV.
