Abstract

Although sustainability and/or sustainable development in oil and gas industry are considered the most important performance measurements as a source of wealth for developing countries, it still needs more attention from academicians and practitioners to be investigated, analyzed and estimated. Nowadays, it is becoming more urgent than ever before. Therefore, sustainability is not an option, it is essential. Oil and gas industry has the responsibility to raise sustainability concepts, in ways that provide energy efficiently as well as contributing to economic, social and environmental aspects. These aspects are considered as challenges and estimating the sustainability index for these aspects are representing the biggest challenge. A framework will be proposed and presented to assess the sustainability index and a case study will be used to illustrate the dimensions of sustainability which can affect on their awareness and development.
