N1 - Funding Information:
There are different donor agencies for funding educational research applications in Oman. One of these is the Research Council (TRC) (recently emerged with the Ministry of Higher Education) that was established in 2005. TRC is a national research council that funds research projects submitted by researchers in higher education institutions and ministries in the country. These applications could be applied for open research grants or strategic grants (The Research Council [TRC], 2020). The second funding body is the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). SQU has three systems as His Majesty Grant (HMG), the Internal Grant (IG), and Joint Grant (JG) for funding research projects applied by its faculty members. The HMG is used to support long-term, multidisciplinary strategic research projects of importance to the Sultanate. Researchers are expected to obtain major results and identify anticipated direct benefits to prospective users. This type of research should generally go along with the Sultanate’s long-term planning goals. The HMG provides an annual research budget that reaches half a million Omani Rials (USD 1,250,000). The IG funds small-scale research projects. Its annual budget exceeds often half a million Omani Rials (USD 1,250,000) (Al-Balushi, 2016). The JG funds joint applications to jointly support a research program. This type of research grant is governed by a signed research agreement with the other institution (Sultan Qaboos University [SQU], 2020).
