Abstract

Sphaerodema nepoides Fabricius (Heteroptera: Belostomatidae) is an ambush predator in habitats with abundant aquatic vegetation. S. nepoides is polyphagous and normally consumes prey with a size range of 3-15 mm. Prey size influences the detection (Dt), handling (Ht) and total predation (Pt) times. Prey motion is also an important factor in the detection of some prey. Satiation is variable in different predators.
