N2 - Most utilities rely on automatic fault detection and isolation to improve the reliability and security of the emerging microgrid. Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) has created an initiative to improve and modernize its microgrid power system Laboratory associated to its Power System Courses. The upgraded microgrid laboratory demonstrates a high level of protection and control functionalities and satisfying the design and operation objectives of micro grid monitoring, protection, automation, and control. Different scenarios and phenomena can be simulated using the advanced functions of the intelligent electronic devices. Finally, the developed microgrid system is successfully used with the students at ECE to widen their education exposure, gain hands-on experience and implement design projects.
