Abstract
The performance of a PDFLC device relies on the uniformity of the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules in the device. This alignment is dictated by the morphology of the liquid crystal droplets. In a shear aligned PDFLC the morphology of the droplets is determined to a large extent by the rate of shearing during the curing process. This paper is a study of the influence of the rate of shearing on the optical characteristics of a PDFLC based on new low molar mass organosiloxane liquid-crystal materials.
