Abstract

Hilbert transform is formulated for the general expression of magnetic effect from a long horizontal circular cylinder. This transform is used for a interpretation of vertical, horizontal and total magnetic field anomalies. Distinct relationships involving expressions of the magnetic effect and its Hilbert transform are derived to evaluate various parameters like the depth to the cylinder centre, the inclination of geomagnetic field and the cylinder radius. The validity and effectiveness of the method is demonstrated on 2 theoretical models in each case. The applicability of the method is verified by an interpretation of the vertical component of the magnetic anomaly caused by a cylinder-like quartz magnetic deposit near Karimnagar, India. -from Authors
