Abstract
Mossbauer spectra for 14 Cr-bearing spinels, separated from spinel lherzolite xenoliths, were measured to study their Fe2+-Fe3+ crystallographic ordering. Spectra acquired at 298 and 77 K suggest that both Fe2+ and Fe3+ are tetrahedrally coordinated in lherzolite Cr-bearing spinels with low Fe3+/Fetot ratios. The investigated Cr-spinels show similar hyperfine parameters, quadrupole splittings and isomer shifts to Mossbauer studies of upper mantle Cr-spinels from lherzolite xenoliths as reported elsewhere, suggesting the similarity in Fe2+ and Fe3+ ordering. -from Authors
