Abstract

A line vortex-type flow undergoing such a deformation that the flow line is close to an ellipse with small eccentricities is studied both experimentally and theoretically. The instability is studied in such a flow with reference to the excitations connected with the bending of the axis of rotation. A mathematical model for the instability is constructed on the basis of the linear theory with the use of the theory of excitation at small deformation.
