Abstract

An efficient algorithm to optimise the reservoir utilisation levels of pumped storage units in probabilistic production costing methodology, used for generation expansion planning, is presented. The deconvolutions involved in off-loading the units for optimal reservoir utilisation of pumped storage units is avoided and a new technique is developed. The technique is also useful if hydroelectric plants are in the system. The method proposed is independent of ELDC representation.
