N2 - This paper presents a self tuning regulator (STR) based on an indirect adaptive pole placement technique in order to improve the efficiency of an adjustable speed DC motor drive system under a wide range of operating conditions. Digital simulation of a separately excited DC motor furnished with an STR and subjected to a step change in the desired signal is performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Simulation results reveal that the self tuning regulator can enhance both the efficiency and the dynamic performance of the motor.
