Abstract

The status of direct numerical simulation of multiphase flows with phase change is discussed, with particular emphasis on the formation of microstructure during solidification, in the presence of flow, and boiling. A number of methods have recently been developed to simulate these problems, mostly using the "one-fluid" approach, where one set of governing equations is used for both phases. Results for both problems, using a combined finite volume/front tracking method are shown.
