Abstract

New records of four fish species from the Persian Gulf coasts of Oman are reported: Tenualosa toli (4 specimens), Plotosus limbatus (4 specimens), Velifer hypselopterus (5 specimens) and Minous inermis (3 specimens). All specimens were obtained during surveys by a trawler operating in the area during 2011. The present study is important in that it records for the first time a species of the family Veliferidae and adds a new location for the species of the families Clupeidae, Plotosidae and Synanceiidae. It is also important as it reports on the presence of established populations of the four species examined based on the catch of juvenile individuals.
