Abstract

In this paper, a comparative study for both AC side passive and active filters for medium voltage PWM current source rectifiers which utilize selective harmonic elimination technique is introduced. Modeling, design and performance analysis of both power filters are given to improve the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the input current and ensure near unity power factor operation for the whole loading range. The topologies used are second order passive LC filter with damping resistor and shunt active power filter based on instantaneous active-reactive power theory (p-q method).
