Abstract

Cache memory is a small, fast memory unit between the central processing unit (CPU) and the main storage memory. It stores frequently accessed instructions and data for the CPU. Current efforts are focused on improving the performance of such units. One way of doing this is through the reduction of the speed gap between the CPU and the memory.
