Abstract

Utilizing a big data is one of energy sector's future key trends. Energy sector's existing data and financial asset is enormous. Using advantages of the big data by new means of information and communication technologies (ICT) is becoming more interesting and common. This paper gives an updated overview for latest trends in the energy sector from technical and business perspective. Ongoing integration process of multiple ICT system and smart gird implementations create fully new and fascinating opportunities for optimizing nationwide energy policies and practices. Big data combined from networked energy systems architectures enables new business models and optimization possibilities. This paper introduces main ICT systems in energy sector, gives a short overview to the key trends in energy sector today and studies how ongoing changes affect to energy supply chain especially from electricity supply chain perspective. A rising trend and highlighted position of the big data can be recognized in the change driven by advanced ICT related technologies.
