Approximation of the smallest root of a cubic equation

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to give a method for approximating the smallest root of a cubic equation. First, however, we will present the method by which Bernoulli, through the use of recursion formulas, or difference equations, approximated the largest root of an equation. We shall then proceed to demonstrate our method which makes use of the fundamental difference equations.
