Abstract
The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between three types of student teachers’ mental models
(detailed, sketched and no-image) and their spatial ability in terms of major and gender. The sample included
(82) science and mathematics student teachers at Sultan Qaboos University. A mental image types survey and
the card rotation test were administered. The study results showed that there was no statistically significant
relationship between student teachers' mental images perceptions and their spatial abilities. Math students
outperformed science students in their spatial ability, and males outperformed females. On the other hand,
females expressed more detailed mental images.
