Abstract
This paper presents the preliminary results of the first season of archeological survey in the western part of Ja'alan in Oman. It discusses the settlement pattern and funerary practices of the Early Bronze Age (EBA) in this part of the Oman Peninsula. The survey has yielded a large number of EBA (Hafit Period) funerary, suggesting a high density of occupation. However, no settlement remains have so far been found in the study area. This absence of evidence prevents our understanding of the settlement pattern in this area, and it raises certain questions which thispaper presents and discusses.
