Abstract

The study aimed to explore the nature of attitudes towards sport activities of Omani children (12 – 15 Yrs) participated in a summer program consisted of varieties of sports activities organized by Sultan Qaboos University, under supervision of Physical Education Department. The study also aimed to examine the relationship between Attitudes according to gender and age differences.
To achieve the goals of the study, A scale for assessing attitudes towards sport activities have been developed. The scale consisted of four sub-scales (1) sport activity viewed as a way to acquire health and fitness, (2) social experience, (3) adventure and excitement experience, and, (4) compete experience.
The results of the study indicated that the sample subjects possesses high levels of self-esteems, and they viewed sport activities as a way to acquire health and fitness, social experience, and compete experience, respectively. While they possessed a low levels of preferences toward the adventure and excitement experiences associated with sports activities.
The study explored that males possessed more positive attitudes towards compete experiences related to sports activity, than the females counterparts. While the study did not explore any significant deference's between the attitudes of males and females towards sports activity.
Lastly, the study revealed that attitudes of Omani children seem to be stable and will not change over time.
