The research intends to delve into the state of exploratory and exploitative innovation among the small medium enterprises (SMEs) in Oman, which presumed to be predicted by the elements of theory of planned behavior (attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control) and influence on SMEs? performances. It proposes that attitudes towards innovation, subjective norms for innovation, and perceived behavioural control over innovation has effect on exploratory and exploitative innovation. In addition, it is believed that exploratory and exploitative innovation has relationship with SMEs? market, operational, and financial performance. Therefore, this research developed fifteen (15) hypotheses. To answer the research objectives, data will be collected from SMEs in capital of Oman (Muscat Governorate and surrounding area). Self-administered questionnaires will be used to collect data. The SME owners will be the respondents in this study. We expect to collect data from minimum 360 SMEs. Data will be analysed using the Structural Equation Modelling technique using Smart Partial Least Square software Version 3.0. The study will assist to understand the state of exploratory and exploitative innovation of the SME entrepreneurs and the possible impact on SMEs performances. This research holds a great extent of significance in context of the current trend and situation of the Sultanate of Oman. The policy makers of the country are now putting more emphasize for the development of the SMEs sector in Oman aligning with innovation. Therefore, this study will compliment and add further contribution in the path of SME development in Oman. The research will provide an insight to the academicians and other vested interested groups, assist Riyada to provide required assistance such as training program to the SMEs, open up the scope to adopt exploratory and exploitative innovation, and it will generate a guideline on innovation related practices.
