Project: Other project

Project Details

Description

In this study, developing China and Gulf relations and possible working areas in politics, economy and cultural studies will be examined. First, Chinese and GCC countries economic relations will be elaborated in the export and import level. It is aimed to search that if the two economies have a nature of ?complementary? features. Later China and regional countries? bilateral and regional relations will be studied in International politics, regional politics and international political economy aspects in chronological order. Later, most importantly, China?s enormous investments will be studied in the region, such as Duqm Port, Gwadar port etc. And then, China?s Military deployments to protect its investments especially in the China- Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will be investigated. It means this study focuses on ?economy, politics and security? tripod. Because without protecting your big investments, you cannot encourage to do that. China is coming (according to some scholars, ?has already come?) to the Gulf; and it is coming with the protecting tools, such as military bases, patrolling navy and frigates. When it comes to the protection from economy, the other powers, India as regional power in the Indian Ocean region and the US as hegemon power will close their eyes to China as the challenging power in the region and the Gulf or not, this is the main question of the study. With this aim, ?third party policies? political and international relations will be probed and compared. In a vide view, China, US and India relations? will be examined in this study. Fifth, some policy alternatives and futuristic implementations will be followed in the project. During this study, few countries? Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Ministry of Defense (MoD) will be visited and some important persons and decision-makers will be interviewed with a prepared and step-questions to enlighten current situation and possible actions to develop and investigate two sides? (China and the Gulf countries) economic and international relations. Potentially two workshops will be held in MoD- National Defense College in Oman. Definitely, reciprocal keynote speakers will enrich those mentioned workshops. This study will give a birth of at least 1 article, 1 conference paper, 2 workshops, 1 seminar and 1 media interview. Those will fill up the gap and lack of this topic and help to the scholastic literature especially for the Gulf and Oman. It will also help to develop two sides? relations in practice.
