Industrial potential of Dam silt in Oman

Project: Other project

Project Details

Description

The present proposal mainly focuses about the occurrence of siltation in AlKhod, Al jizzi and Salalah Dams and their industrial potential uses. We will evaluate silt formed by sediment from existing and previous dredging sites. The texture, mineralogy, organic matter content and nutrients contained in sediment will be characterized. The use of calcined silt as a pozzolanic material for mortar and concrete has received considerable attention in recent years. This study aims to analyze the re-use of dam silt as a supplementary binder for self-compacting concrete (SCC), additive to soil and for pottery and to manufacture building bricks. Turning this ecological problem into a natural resource by getting the sediment out of the dams where it?s not needed and getting it somewhere it is needed.
