The quality of corporate governance is important for the development of financial markets in any country. Moreover, it also helps to inculcate the culture of trust and transparency of information in any society. Local regulators and independent bodies, such as International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), have been active in promoting a culture of investor protection and good governance practices in the GCC region for last two decades. This projects aspires to investigate the effects of corporate governance on the transparency of firms in the GCC region. By doing so, we will be able to provide policy recommendations to regulators in assessing whether the corporate governance codes in different GCC countries have been effective in bringing the desired transparency and earning investors? confidence in the financial system.
