Description

Nanotechnology plays an important role for the development of the modern technology. In nanotechnology heating or cooling of the nano-devices are very important for their proper functionality. Nanofluids which contain nanometer-sized particles of metals (Al, Cu, Ti), oxides (Al2O3), carbides (SiC), nitrides (AlN, SiN), or nonmetals (graphite, carbon nanotubes) with base fluid (water, ethylene glycol, engine oil etc) have novel properties that make them potentially useful in many applications of heat transfer including microelectronics, fuel cells, pharmaceutical processes, and hybrid-power engines. They exhibit enhanced thermal conductivity and the convective heat transfer coefficient compared to the base fluid. Thus, nanofluids are treated as engineered colloids modern fluids. We plan to investigate the convection mechanism in nanofluids with different flow and thermal conditions in a disk shaped body (in connection with other geometries too). The mathematical model of the proposed nanofluid problem will be simulated numerically. The dynamics of the nanofluids will be investigated from the physical and engineering perspectives. Thus successful completion of the project is expected to produce interesting results for understanding the basic characteristics of the nanofluids and could provide novel applications in the emerging areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
