Project: Other project

Project Details

Description

The following is a proposal to conduct archaeological investigations at the Early Bronze Age (Hafit- Umm an-Nar period; ca. 3400-2000 BC) settlement at al-Ghoryeen in Wadi Andam, al-Mudhaybi area. The work follows successful survey and partial excavations undertaken in 2018 by the Department of Archaeology at Sultan Qaboos University. Excavation at the site is planned for the year 2022. It will involve a team from the Department of Archaeology at SQU under the direction of the PI and Co.PI. The site is important because no other site of Hafit date with unique settlement domestic structures complex is known so far from the whole of the Oman Peninsula. This is the first site that produces evidence for a complete settlement complex from this period. If more excavations are conducted this will definitely add more to our understanding of the cultural changes that existed during the Early Bronze Age.
