Dr. Imran Khan joined as an Assistant Professor in Department of Chemistry, Sultan Qaboos University in the year 2016. Earlier from 2012 to 2016 worked as FCT Postdoctoral Fellow in the research group of Prof João A.P. Coutinho who run's the group famed as Process and Product Applied Thermodynamics (PATh), Dept. of Chemistry, University of Aveiro, Portugal. Dr Khan, focused on study of molecular interaction of Ionic Liquids with different solvent on the Project titled "Selection of Ionic Liquids as Entrainers for the Extractive Distillation of Water-Alcohols" funded by Fundaçãopara a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT)” in the associated laboratory CICECO, Dept. of Chemistry, University of Aveiro, Portugal. Also, Dr Khan was the principal investigator of a Exploratory Research and Development Projects, Funded by FCT, Portugal (http://www.fct.pt/index.phtml.en), Development of a sustainable technology for the extraction and purification of chlorophylls from biomass in year 2014. Since 2008, Dr. Khan published more than 40 scientific papers in international peer reviewed journals and nine book chapters, and has an h-index of 12. Dr Khan, also presented many scientific research paper in various International Conferences. Dr Khan, is also member of various scientific chemical society.

Research interests
My research is focused on thermodynamic and physicochemical properties of novel class of ionic liquids and liquid mixture. Current research interests are designing ionic liquids (IL) for extraction of value added component, separation, materials development, environmental remediation, micellization, enhanced oil recovery, corrosion. Also focus on polymer-Ionic Liquid Interaction for the application in drug delivery. We also perform systematic theoretical and computational study to understand the interaction at the molecular level.
