N2 - Removal of phenolic compounds from effluents is obligatory in order to avoid water pollution. Batch shaking adsorption studies were carried out to evaluate the potentiality of activated carbon prepared from palm seed coat in the removal of p-chlorophenol from aqueous solution. The percentage removal of p-chlorophenol was studied by varying experimental conditions viz., dosage of adsorbents, pH of the solution and contact time. It was found that more than 90 % removal was achieved under optimal conditions. The adsorption capacity (K) for p-chlorophenol calculated from Freundlich adsorption isotherm is found to be 33.25 mg/g at pH 10. The kinetics of p-chlorophenol adsorption on activated carbon indicated that p-chlorophenol removal remains constant for various concentration. The activated carbon examined showed reversible uptake of p-chlorophenol and thus has good application potential for the removal/ recovery of p-chlorophenol from aqueous solutions.
