Proposing a sustainability course in industrial, manufacturing and systems engineering program

Sustainability and/or Sustainable development (S/SD) is appearing as one of the major incentives for implementing “Industry 4.0”. Nowadays and due to growing rapidly of using the ideologues of S/SD, teaching them in Industrial or Manufacturing or Systems Engineering program are necessary. Literacy of S/SD concepts, analyses and assessment became urgent due to growing evidence from global and domestic markets. It is a need to review engineering programs curriculum to increase students' skills. Industrial, manufacturing and Systems Engineering programs as a specific are keen regarding S/SD not only in teaching individual chapter in some courses but also offering new course of S/SD. In this paper, using ideologues through identifying enablers/drivers and assessment of S/SD indexes in teaching core courses in Industrial Engineering program will be introduced taking into considerations the triple bottom line (TBL) of S/SD (economy, society and environment). A framework to propose this course will be discussed and the proposed through several steps with evaluation with the ABET student's outcomes to achieving program education objectives (PEO).
