N2 - A finite element model for elastic plastic large deformation analysis of soil-culvert systems is presented. Predictions of this numerical model are in good agreement with failure tests on full size soil-culvert systems. All the current closed-form buckling theories give very conservative results when compared to finite element analysis because these theories neglect part of the soil support. The finite element analyses show that including the soil support leads to an increase in the critical failure pressures.
