N2 - An efficient algorithm to optimise the reservoir utilisation levels of pumped storage units in probabilistic production costing methodology, used for generation expansion planning, is presented. The deconvolutions involved in off-loading the units for optimal reservoir utilisation of pumped storage units is avoided and a new technique is developed. The technique is also useful if hydroelectric plants are in the system. The method proposed is independent of ELDC representation.
