N2 - This paper reports on the various means by which Single Wire Earth Return (SWER) distribution systems may be upgraded, comparing the various limits that are associated with each method and the economic costs of its deployment. An existing overloaded SWER system, Mistake Creek North in Central Queensland - Australia, has been used as a concrete example. Conclusions are drawn about the appropriateness of each method and recommendations are made.
