ملخص

Objective: The present study examines the gross anatomical features of the Abductor Digiti Minimi (ADM) muscle of the foot and defines its clinical importance. Method: The sole of the foot was dissected on both sides, in 42 human cadavers. The origin, insertion, innervation and the blood supply of ADM muscle were studied. The abnormalities were noted and photographed. Results: The ADM muscle had normal origin, insertion, innervation and blood supply in 41 cadavers. Only, in one case, bifid ADM muscle was noted on both sides of a 38 year old, female cadaver. Conclusion: Presence of bifid ADM muscle is a rare anomaly. Bifid ADM muscle may remain undetected during entire life. It may be symptomatic only in case of entrapment of nerve. Additional belly of ADM muscle may be utilized as an excellent flap for reconstructive surgeries of the foot.
