ملخص

Citrus limetta is an evergreen small tree belonging to the Rutaceae family. It is cultivated all over the world and is used as a fresh fruit, as a source of juice, yields essential oil, and is used as traditional medicine due to its bioactive components. The bioactive components include flavonoids, limonoids, calcium, potassium, and a low content of fat and dietary fibers. It is an important source of essential oil that ultimately finds several applications. C. limetta find uses in food industries, in pharmaceuticals, in perfumery, in bioadsorption of industrial wastes, in industrial synthesis of enzymes, as insect repellent, and more. The remarkable pharmacological activities of C. limetta enable it to act as antibacterial, antiinflammatory, and antiatherosclerotic and for larvicidal activities and help in dissolution of stones. Due to its countless benefits, it is essential to optimize its yield and improve preservation and extraction technologies, especially in underdeveloped countries.
