The technical and managerial skills that must be acquired by the graduates of the Instructional and Learning Technology Department based on the needs of the Job Market

Description

The internship for college students is considered one of the most important elements of academic programs, where a student spends a specified period of time in a real work area related to his/her specialty during the study in the University. Research shows that this training period has significant impact on students and rsquo; learning potentialand their future careers. In addition this training period helps recruiters to identify students and rsquo; competencies and capabilities. Due to limited employment opportunities for the graduates of the ILT program outside the Ministry of Education, the ILT department developed the program curriculum to include summer internship course to enhance skills and widen students and rsquo; job opportunities in both public and private sectors. It is worth mentioning that the principal investigator of this project has been coordinating the Internship program since the Fall semester of 2007. The actual implementation of the program has started in 2008 in only four government organizations, and then increased gradually to reach 33 public and private organizations at both national and regional levels. Based on field observations and feedback from the training sites, and the needs of the job market, it was found that it is important to prepare a list of technical and managerial skills that should be acquired by the graduates of the program. Accordingly, it is hoped that this research project will guide future improvement of the instructional and learning technology program offered by the ILT department so that its graduates will have a competitive edge the in job market at both national and regional levels. This research project will be based a descriptive analytic research methodology. The target population of the study consists of all personnel in the training sites responsible for the training and human resource development in both private and public sectors, in addition to all graduates of the program. The sample will include those in charge of training and supervision of students, in addition to a selected group from the alumni of the program.
