Description

Renal tissues are sensitive to toxins including drugs, which are the causes of one fourth of acute kidney injury (AKI) in critically ill patients. Traditional renal clinical parameters i.e. serum creatinine, blood urea and nitrogen are only raised when a substantial renal tissues are lost. New biomarkers for earlier and more accurate detection of drug-induced AKI are now available. However, their potential use in clinical setting requires simple, reliable and economically sound laboratory methods. In this work the attempts will be made to develop economic, reproducible, sensitive and reliable SPE-LC/MS/MS method for the measurement of AKI biomarkers in the urine and plasma. Various solid phase cartridges will be used to develop appropriate sample preparation methods. The new generation columns such as C28, penta fluorophenyl and propyl phenyl columns will be used for the purpose. The research will be useful to identify AKI patients in early stages in order to prevent them developing chronic renal failure. The developed methods will not only be useful to Omani patients but also to worldwide population.
