Description

This research aims to provide a suggested proposal to develop the process of instructional supervision in the Sultanate of Oman in light of some main contemporary supervisory approaches. In order to achieve this goal, the research answers the following questions: 1. What are the main contemporary approaches to instructional supervision? 2. What is the reality of instructional supervision practices in the Sultanate of Oman as perceived by the sample of the study? 3. What are the obstacles to the development of instructional supervision in the Sultanate of Oman as perceived by the sample of the study? 4. To what extent do the study sample?s perspectives on the reality and development of instructional supervision practices and obstacles vary according to some demographic variables (governorate, school type, function, school stage)? 5. What is the proposal suggested to develop the instructional supervision process in the Sultanate of Oman based on the findings of the study? The research applies triangulation in research methods and in data collection. In other words, the research will apply quantitative approach by conducting a questionnaire to collect data from a random sample of school teachers and supervisors, and will apply the qualitative method approach by conducting interviews with some of the object-selected sample of senior supervisors and general supervisors, as well as the analysis of evidences and documents of educational supervision that are used by instructional supervision departments and by school supervisors themselves. As for the diversification of the sources of information, it will be achieved through the collection of data from a variety of categories of participants such as classroom teachers, school supervisors, and the category of the administrators such as senior and general supervisors, as well as through a variety of geographic environments in which the study is conducted, allowing to make comparisons and arrive at a more comprehensive picture of the phenomenon under study.
