Description

The welfare of the weak is primary responsibility of society as a whole and state in particular. Aging is one of the major problem of today?s world where the size of population more than 65 is expected to be doubled (i.e. 17% of world?s population, 1.6 Billion) by 2050. Although Oman is a ?young? country, where more than 49% population is in [0-24] bracket and less than 4% are above 64 [1]. However, the ratio is expected to rise to about 15% in 30 years. Government has been promoting the welfare of disabled persons as the number of disabled government employees increased by 18% in 2018 as compared to 2017. There is a need of tackling the taboo of old and care homes and prepare our society beforehand. Some of the recent programs initiated by government show that the state is committed to fulfil its responsibility towards this segment of society. Like every other field, this area can also get benefit from the recent advances in information technology. This proposed project aims to provide a comprehensive IoT based framework for smart homes, augmented with monitoring and decision support systems, enhanced by data analytics. We aim to integrate legacy systems along with newly created algorithms that can result in improved performance, less cost and more importantly, improved personal space and comfort of residents of our model smart homes. The major modules of proposed system are (i) Sensors (Activity Monitors, Environmental Monitors), (ii) Monitoring System that collects and perform shallow analysis of data from sensors, (iii) Decision Support System that perform deep analysis and can generate various activities charts, alarms, triggers and (iv) Infotainment System for rehabilitation with videos, guided therapies etc.
