Description

The course presents an overview of electronic archives as digital documents with specific characteristics that require technologies for their collection, description, indexing, archiving and provision.
Also, the course exposes the most important problems raised for the conservation of these archives and their availability, as well as the solutions which can be drawn from the international standards in this field.
This unit introduces students to the major specificities of electronic archives and documents. The first objective of this course is to provide an overview of the digital document, its differences with records and archives, its theoretical foundations and professional practice.
At the completion of this unit students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the nature of information studies filed and:
 understand the concepts and importance of digital documents, their structure and their languages
 Demonstrate and understanding the digital evolution.
 Understand the role of standards in electronic archives
 Practice of some technologies related to electronic archives
At the end of this module, students will be able to:
- Understand the main problems of electronic archives and electronic archiving;
- Master all digitization techniques
- Know all types of formats of digital documents and distinguish those intended for electronic archives, in particular HTML, XML and PDF / A formats
- Know the main standards of electronic archiving
